OO Drill · BOSCH BASICS
The objective of the project was to create the first product of a collection aimed at makers who are just starting out, users who love DIY or people who will use tools twice a year to assemble their furniture.
Designed from the ground up, OO Drill takes inspiration from insights into DIY users and the establishment of brands selling unassembled furniture.
The challenge
The power tool market has traditionally focused on hyper-masculine, overly complex aesthetics that often alienate casual DIY users and modern urban households. The challenge for the Bosch Basics — OO Drill was to reposition a classic power tool into an approachable, minimalist lifestyle asset. We needed to simplify the physical form factor without sacrificing the robust engineering and reliability synonymous with the Bosch heritage.

The solution
The result is the Bosch Basics — OO Drill: a cordless tool reimagined for the next generation of creators. By balancing aesthetic minimalism with functional precision, the design achieves an outstanding user experience (UX) for everyday tasks. This strategic product transformation expands the brand’s market reach into design-conscious demographics, proving that utility can be both visually quiet and commercially powerful.
The process
Our development process focused heavily on tactile ergonomics and semantic design reduction. We stripped away unnecessary ornamental plastic moldings and cluttered switch interfaces, replacing them with intuitive, human-centric touchpoints and a seamless cylindrical geometry. Through rigorous CMF (Color, Material, Finish) exploration, we applied a refined matte texture and a unified color palette that elevates the tool’s perceived value.
